How to Survive the Summer Heat in Prague

Prague's Photo

With temperatures climbing towards 30°C (86°F), enjoying a summer date—and your entire trip to Prague—might be challenging. But worry not! Here are some tips on how to stay cool and still make the most of every romantic moment with me, your perfect companion.

Explore Early in the Morning or Late on the Evening

To truly enjoy iconic landmarks like Charles Bridge or the Astronomical Clock without the intense heat, let's plan our visit for early morning or late evening. These times not only provide cooler temperatures (keep in mind that there is not much shade around the most well-known spots in Prague) but also fewer crowds, allowing us to enjoy a more intimate and relaxed atmosphere.

For a unique perspective, consider taking a boat ride through Prague Venice. Cruising, we'll get to see the city's famous landmarks from a different angle and visit a few underground spots not accessible to pedestrians, all while sipping a nice cold beer or soda. For a more private experience, I recommend Prague Private Boat with Patrik, who is an excellent guide with extensive knowledge about Prague. Or, if you fancy being the captain, check out Vltava Boat Rental.

Go Underground

If we're not on the water, we can cool down by going underground. The metro is a great option. Unlike in London, Prague’s metro stays pleasantly cool, making it not only a comfortable way for us to travel around the city but also a place where we can escape from the sun. Let's explore Line A, and find the station design you like the most!

For something less obvious, in Vyšehrad, we can visit two different casemates: one leading to Gorlice Hall and Saint Martin’s casemates. Built during the 17th and 18th centuries as part of the city's defense system, they now offer a cool escape from the heat and some legends as a bonus.

Feeling adventurous and ready to walk? Let's take a stroll through the Žižkov Tunnel connecting Žižkov and Karlín districts. Built during the Cold War as part of the civil defense system, it offers a unique, cool walk (the full working atomic shelter is still there, though unfortunately, apart from the tunnel, the rest is not accessible to the public). While we're in the area, we can visit the observatory deck at Žižkov Tower, the tallest building in Prague, or enjoy a meal in or under the tower. On the Karlín side, we can relax with a cold beer, drink, or coffee in one of Prague’s most vibrant areas, full of bars, beer gardens, and cafés that offer a genuine local atmosphere.

Visit Prague Castle

A classic yet always delightful option is Prague Castle. We can catch tram number 22 at the National Theatre for a picturesque ride uphill—the most beautiful tram route in all of Prague. The castle and its gardens provide countless romantic spots and shaded areas for us to relax and enjoy each other's company.
